미국 로스앤젤레스(LA) 일대에서 7일(현지 시각) 대형 산불이 발생하며 주민들에게 큰 피해를 주고 있습니다.

오전 10시경 시작된 산불은 강풍을 타고 급속히 확산되어 주민 약 3만 명이 위험에 처해있는 것으로 알려졌는데요. LA 소방국은 “이번 산불로 인해 수많은 가구와 고급 주택들이 화마의 위협에 처해 있다”라고 밝혔습니다.

산불 확산의 주요 원인으로 지목된 '샌타애나' 돌풍은 가을과 겨울에 자주 나타나며 방향 예측이 어려워 '악마의 바람'으로 불리기도 하는데요. 현재 소방관 250여 명과 소방차, 헬기 등을 동원해 진화 작업을 벌이고 있지만, 강풍과 건조한 기후로 인해 작업이 난항을 겪고 있습니다.

The fire, which started around 10 a.m., has rapidly spread due to strong winds, putting approximately 30,000 residents at risk. The LA Fire Department stated, “Many households and luxury homes are under threat from the flames.”

The main cause of the wildfire's spread is attributed to the 'Santa Ana' winds, often referred to as the 'devil's winds' due to their unpredictable nature during the fall and winter seasons. 

Currently, about 250 firefighters, along with fire engines and helicopters, are working to contain the blaze. However, the combination of strong winds and dry weather is making firefighting efforts extremely challenging.
