Following a recent tragic incident within the military, the Ministry of Defense in Korea has decided to exclude physical training from punishments for trainees and to conduct such punishments only after preparing measures for emergency situations. This measure is a follow-up to last month’s death of a trainee at the 12th Division Recruit Training Center. In the future, military training for trainees will be replaced with education, writing reflection papers, meditation, and cleaning instead of physical training. Additionally, military training will be conducted considering the individual’s physical condition and weather conditions. The authority to approve military training will be held by commanders of company level or higher for soldiers, and by field-grade officers or higher for officers. The Ministry of Defense in Korea announced that these measures would be applied immediately in the field.
