He was sentenced to death in 1983 at the age of 18 for allegedly killing a woman, but his sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. The conviction was based on the prosecutor’s claim that bite marks on the victim matched his dental impression.

However, in 2018, a lawyer conducting a reinvestigation revealed that the marks on the victim were not bite marks, and DNA tests showed DuBoise’s innocence. As a result, he was released in 2020.

Subsequently, DuBoise filed a lawsuit against the city of Tampa, the investigating officers, and the forensic dentist who provided inaccurate testimony, leading to compensation from the city council. In an interview, DuBoise stated, “I plan to buy a house. However, no amount of money can recover what I’ve lost.”
