일론 머스크가 운영하는 우주항공기업 스페이스X가 2031년 폐기 예정인 국제우주정거장(ISS)의 처리 업체로 선정되었습니다.
해당 계약 규모는 약 1조 1,620억 원으로 역대 계약 금액으로 여겨지는데요, 미국 항공우주국(NASA)은 ISS를 안전하게 태평양에 폐기하기 위한 ‘탈궤도 차량’ 개발을 스페이스X에 맡긴 상태입니다. IS는 현재 지구 상공에서 다양한 과학 실험을 수행 중이며 2030년까지 운영 예정인데요, 잔해는 태평양의 외딴 장소인 포인트 니모(Point Nemo)로 유도될 예정입니다.
현재 NASA 및 기타 우주 항공 기관은 차세대 우주 플랫폼 ‘게이트웨이’ 구축에 집중할 계획이라고 합니다.
SpaceX, operated by Elon Musk, has been selected as the contractor for the disposal of the International Space Station (ISS), scheduled for 2031.
The contract amount is approximately 1.162 trillion won, considered one of the largest contracts ever. NASA has entrusted SpaceX with developing a ‘deorbit vehicle’ to safely dispose of the ISS in the Pacific Ocean. The ISS, currently conducting various scientific experiments in Earth’s orbit, will be operational until 2030, with debris expected to be guided to a remote area of the Pacific called Point Nemo.
Currently, NASA and other space agencies are focused on building the next-generation space platform, ‘Gateway.’
