오버투어리즘으로 인한 여러 문제가 생기는 가운데, 스페인에서도 여행 수요가 몰리면서 관광객 방문을 반대하는 주민들이 관광객을 향해 물총을 쏘며 시위를 벌이고 있습니다.

스페인은 현재 관광객 증가로 인해 월세와 물가 상승, 환경오염 등의 문제로 주민들이 불편을 겪고 있는데요. 마요르카섬의 해변은 관광객들로 가득 차 주차 공간을 찾기 어렵고, 상점과 식당에서는 결제 승인 알림음이 끊이지 않고 있습니다.

결국 바르셀로나 도심에서는 수천 명의 시위자들이 관광객들을 향해 물총을 쏘며 "집으로 돌아가라"고 외쳤는데요, 관광객이 자주 찾는 식당에는 출입 금지구역 표시가 세워졌으며 팻말을 들고 거리를 걷기도 했습니다.

알리칸테에서도 주민들이 "존중을 바란다"는 팻말을 들고 시위를 벌였으며, 팔마데마요르카에서도 시위가 예정되어 있습니다.

이에 바르셀로나 정부는 관광 수요 조절을 위해 단기 아파트 임대를 금지하고, 크루즈 관광객에게 부과하는 세금을 인상할 계획인데요, 현재 관광세는 하루 7유로(약 1만원)로 부과되고 있습니다.
