최근 일본에서 한국의 500원 동전이 일본의 500엔 동전 대신 사용되는 사례가 발생해 현지 상인들이 불만을 표출하고 있습니다. 

일본 매체에 따르면, 도쿄의 한 공중목욕탕이 SNS를 통해 한국 500원 동전이 섞여 들어온 사례를 전했는데요, “처음에는 500엔으로 착각했으나 나중에 확인해 보니 한국 500원이었다”고 말했습니다.

한국 500원 동전과 일본 500엔 동전은 지름과 무게가 거의 동일해 구별이 어려워 이러한 유사성으로 인해 과거에도 일본에서 한국 500원을 악용한 사건이 있는 것으로 밝혀졌습니다.

According to Japanese media, a public bathhouse in Tokyo reported on social media that a Korean 500 won coin had been mixed in. “At first, we mistook it for 500 yen, but later found out it was a Korean 500 won coin,” they said.

The Korean 500 won coin and the Japanese 500 yen coin have almost identical diameter and weight, making it difficult to distinguish between the two. Due to this similarity, there have been cases in the past where the Korean 500 won coin was misused in Japan.
